The Nature of the Beast — Understanding the Voice of Addiction
AVRT, the forgotten addiction recovery system. The acronym stands for Addictive Voice Recognition Technique. Everyone knows about the 12 steps, but who has heard of AVRT? I reckon it’s not that many. Maybe it’s more popular in America, where it was invented, but I have to say that personally, I learned it quite late in my addiction recovery journey. I had already been trying to be porn-free for 8 or so years before I stumbled upon the book “The Final Fix for Alcohol and Drug Addiction: AVRT, Addictive Voice Recognition Technique” by Jack Trimpey. But I’m glad I did, because it provided me with some pieces of the puzzle I was missing.
Sidenote: the book focuses mainly on alcoholism and drug addiction but this article focuses mostly on porn addiction, because that’s the addiction I personally struggled with and have experience in. It’s stated in the book that while the focus is on alcohol, you can simply replace the word “alcohol,” with whatever addiction you are struggling with.
